das appledoren

here are some pics from out and about appledore. I’m unsure why we exactly picked appledore, i think it had something to do with deciding on Devon (the county) and choosing a spot somewhere on the coast. It repeatedly featured as ‘charming’ in reviews and lonely planet listed it as one of the 10 things to see in Devon. It didn’t hurt that it had the oldest golf course in England a 3 minute drive away. But to be brutal, it wasn’t that much to write about. Perhaps I am becoming spoilt by English cobbled stones, and whilst it was cute in places, it was hardly going to ever make a top ten list of mine. In fact, I would suggest that a few other nearby towns presented themselves as more endearing (croyde or woolacombe are my suggestions), but it did have a cute deli which sold local meat and produce including wonderful steaks. And I’m a firm believer that all you need for a great holiday is a good attitude (blerk, i know) so we had a lovely time. The weather was marginally warmer than London and the sun was our regularly.

be there any people in yee humble, charming town of appledore?

Looks very quaint and old Englishy. And totally agree on the "attitode" element of the holiday.....the NUMBER 1 necessity.

And that shot of the fish and chip shop gave me stabbing pains of desperate need for some fush and chups. Not seen on the menu in this part of the world sadly. Perhaps I need to look harder....

There were people, they were all hanging around outside Heather's place peeking in her front window.

Appledore was quaint, but the English do quaint like Tiger does a stripper. Repetedly. Heather, get Dave to read that. Ha ha.

The best part about Appledore was H:Bomb and family.

The worst part was those tiny, narrow streets, and Stu's swearing as we drove down them, perilously close to the imminent destruction of Roger the Rover.

I remember seeing the sign announcing our passing through Appledore on the train to the coast, and thinking how very hobbit-esque a name for a village.

Would have stopped in the way back, but was traveling with Anneliese and a very hungover Alexander Johnson-Tang. They were not party to the idea.

It is everything I imagined it would be, from the teeny, tiny streets to the teeny, tiny creepy church with the old, leaning gravestones.

Definitely want to hit that charity shop. Could use some ol' English knick knacks in my cold, city condo.

Just lovely.

I too have pangs of jealousy over ye olde Fish and Chips shop. In fact, everything looks very ye olde. Beautiful photos as always!
