The first most awesome factor was the weather. Perfect sun every day (though not too harsh for my china doll thing). Which was completely unexpected even though it is the middle of June in the Mediterranean. You see, EVERY time I go on holiday with Dave, it rains. Doesn’t matter time of year or distance from the equator we are: IT RAINS. The last three times we have gone to a place which has a pool on offer it has been unusable due to rain. And I was so sure the same would happen this time that I packed my slippers. Luckily, also packed a number of summer dresses because it was so very lovely that skimpy was the only way to go. I may have even whipped out a bikini or two, but y’all never know cos I ain’t ever putting those pictures up on here.
The second factor of awesomeness was the place itself. Not just the sweet, sweet air-conditioning, pools and views of our haven nestled in the mountains, but of Corsica itself. Talk about nature sneezing all it’s good stuff in one spot!! The mountains were spectacular and everywhere. We drove across a few valleys during our stay and as you wound up one road around the incredibly beautiful rocky but lush mountain and entered the next valley… wey hey! More spectacular mountains! And then if you went away from these beauties towards water – eg the beaches or the amazing natural rock pools formed in the rivers – woahhooo! Mo Nature has done it again!! Picturesque Mediterranean white sandy beaches. Mmm.
We were staying near a town called Calvi on the very north of the island. It has an ancient citadel and old town which over time has gained a somewhat swanky French-Riviera feel to it. Not really my cup of tea, but nice for the odd day trip in or two. For me it was what you could see a 20 min outside the town which made it sensational. However if Ginny catches your ear for a few moments she can tell you the tale of the last King of Corsica and the fact that they (and therefore my boys) are descended from him. Currently planning coup.
Our days were pretty lazy – we’d aim to get out of the house by 11am, make our way somewhere nice that involved swimming for a couple of hours. We’d then buy some food and make our ay back to the compound (that horrific dwelling I detailed below) whereupon we’d put the boys down for a couple hour nap and then sit by the pool reading till a similarly cruise evening rolled around. 7 days of that really took it out of us.
Anyway – a fair few photos below and over coming days – sadly none of which really capture the beauty of the place (or the boys!) Today’s batch is from around the town of Calvi and a couple of the surrounding beaches. Enjoy.
cute boys in front of boats in front of moutains with snow on them (so incongruous!)
beach in calvi. bit 'meh' (you will see what i mean below)
next day, two coves along in small town Lumio. nice. favourite colour of the region s blue.
fred contemplates how many shades of blues exist.
dave would kill me if he saw that i posted this pic of him (he won't). couldn't resist teh cuteness that is Pudding.
this never gets old.
]more pictures of awesome blue seas anyone?

sandy bums ROCK! What a stunning place - oh so romatic and sophisticated. Sounds like you guys had a great time. Laxy days are the best, but you guys deserve them. My China Doll complexion also gets burnt everywhere - sun, rain, shade, probabaly even inside. Damn, why did the olive skin gene skip over moi!

Soooo ... quite unlike the Pacific NorthWest then (rained almost everyday - but still stunning). Your boys get cuter by the day - I can't believe how big Rock's getting. How goes the house hunt?
